Property in Switzerland and the Swiss alps has been popular with British clients for many years. Switzerland offers a safe environment to invest in property, and the Swiss Alps is renowned for its pretty villages and skiing.

However, if we made a choice between investing in property in Austria versus property in Switzerland - our decision would be to invest in Austria property. Austria property offers, in our opinion, a better investment opportunity than the Switzerland property market. Property in Austria has only recently be opened up to foriegn investors and there are many bargains to be found and in exceptional locations. Zell am See, Saalbach and Kaprun, as well as Flachau in the Ski Amade are our current top choices for austria property investment.
Another example of great Austrian Alps property for sale is in Bad Kleinkirchheim. The homeland of Olympic downhill skier Franz Klammer, Bad Kleinkirchheim is ideal for families due to the extensive sports facilities and excellent childcare. A hundred kilometres of pistes, fed by 34 ski lift systems and divided into 11 per cent for beginners, 78 per cent for intermediates and advanced level skiers and 11 per cent for experts, are spread over a vertical descent of 1,370m. Bad Kleinkirchheim is a truly dual season resort, offering in the middle of fantastic alpine surroundings an 18 hole "Kaiserburg" golf course. For beginners there is a Golf Academy, trial courses and a 6 hole practise green. There is also over 1,000 kilometres of signposted and well cared for walking paths in the Nock Mountain National Park. Wellness is also very important in Bad Kleinkirchheim. The main attractions are the villages' two thermal springs; their healing thermal water helps relieve pain and helps relaxation.
Swiss property is a stable investment, especially in the alpine ski resorts, where property is still reasonably priced. Resorts such as Villars, Les Diablerets, Verbier, Grimentz, Saas Fe, are all notable ski resorts with quality property for sale.
Villars is one of our favourite Swiss alps property destinations. sits on a sunny plateau at 1300m and is undoubtedly one of the best, and most easily accessible, dual season resorts in the Alps. Only 90 minutes drive from Geneva airport, and with excellent train connections, it is easy to visit for a long weekend. Strict building controls have retained its traditional charm and there are some beautiful unspoilt villages. There are few package tours or catered chalets, so Villars is up-market, a well-kept secret, a proper place, busy all year and pleasure to visit summer and winter.
The main ski area is above Bretaye, a sunny snow bowl at 1800m. There has been a massive investment in recent years and 46 modern lifts serve 120 km of piste including a link to Les Diablerets and its glacier at 3,000m. There is a surprising amount of off-piste skiing, and resorts, such as Verbier and the Portes du Soleil are within 45 minutes drive. There are many charming mountain restaurants and Villars is an outstanding resort for children and non-skiers. The Sporting and The Alchemist have live bands, and there are late night venues / discos such as Charlie's, Café Central, and El Gringos. Villars has excellent facilities for non-skiers. An 18 hole-golf course, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, horse riding, mountain biking, tennis, ice skating, plenty to do. Good walking, charming old villages and Montreux and Lake Geneva are only 20 minutes away.
Villars has virtually no restrictions for foreigners purchasing property they may also buy land and have a chalet built to order. Small chalets in villages such as Gryon start at around 750,000 Sfrs but are seldom on the market. There are new apartments under construction in prime positions in Villars.
